How FASTag Calculates Charges for Round-Trip Journeys

FASTag round-trip toll charge calculation process

With the recent developments in transportation, people can now enjoy a seamless journey with the new digital toll collection system called FASTag. Attaching the FASTag to the windshield of your vehicle not only allows you to enjoy a seamless ride with no breaks at the tolls but also gives you other benefits.

So, the next time you are on a long road trip, FASTag will ensure that you do not have to face long queues at the toll plazas. FASTag enables you to pay for tolls digitally. But do you know how a FASTag calculates charges for a roundtrip? Read this post to know how you can calculate charges for a FASTag.

How are the Charges on FASTag for a Roundtrip Calculated?

FASTag has made round trips easier and convenient. Toll charges for one way travel and roundtrip are different. When you travel towards a destination and then return back to the origin, it is called a roundtrip.

The roundtrip is billed as per predetermined costs, when you travel both sides passing the toll within 24 hours, as per toll plaza rules 24 hours.

With the FASTag, the charge deducted when you pass through the plaza during your return is reduced to 50% of the original one-way toll fee. This reduced fare applies if the return trip is completed within a specified time frame, usually within 24 hours, depending on the toll plaza's policy.

For example, if you have been charged Rs. 50 at toll while travelling up and you return through the toll plaza within 24 hours, then your returning toll is deducted to half of the amount, that is Rs. 25 in this case.

So, the toll for a roundtrip completed within 24 hours is deducted at a reduced rate for the return journey, usually at half the original toll amount, as per the toll plaza rules 24 hours.

The toll charges for a one-way and roundtrip are predetermined. The charges and deductions may vary from toll to toll.

What are the Factors That Impact FASTag Charges?

There are many factors that affect the FASTag charges and can sometimes cause the price to fluctuate. Here are some of the key factors:

1. Distance Travelled

During an outbound or a roundtrip, the distance travelled could seriously affect the total FASTag charges. The more distance you take, the more your toll will be. You can predetermine your toll price by calculating your distance using an online mapping tool as well.

2. Category of Vehicle

There are different types or categories of vehicles with different toll rates. These categories consider the size and weight of the vehicle as well as the axles. This can also determine the toll charged.

3. Toll Rates

The toll rates are not the same everywhere and vary greatly from one place to another. Hence, it is a good idea to check the toll rates of the particular toll booth that you are to pass. You can check this online as well.

How to Make Your FASTag Round Trips More Effective?

Round trips have definitely become more convenient, thanks to FASTag. Here is how to make them even more effective:

1. Check Toll Details

Before you begin your journey, to make the FASTag round trips more effective, it is essential to check various toll details. Ensure to keep track of all the tolls you will encounter on your trip as well.

2. Plan Return Journeys

Plan your return journeys to ensure that you return within the allowed time frame to avail of the concession of round trips. Hence, plan accordingly to ensure that you return within time and not pay extra for the trip.

3. Maintain FASTag Balance

Maintaining your FASTag account balance is just as important. Always ensure that when you are on a trip, your FASTag wallet is topped up so that you face no hassle on the road while on your journey.

4. Recharge Online

You can recharge online if your account has insufficient balance. You can use ICICI Bank Net Banking, iMobile Pay app or UPI. However, it is essential to calculate the toll you might pay on the trip and keep your wallet recharged accordingly. You can also opt for Auto Recharge with your ICICI bank FASTag, which ensures you never run out of balance while on the go.
